Each of the women in Scripture that we encounter this weekend experience God’s love outpoured in a way that involves jars. Jars that were filled, shattered, or left behind for something greater. These vessels became holy tools for outpouring: of oil, of perfume, of living water – of faith, home, love, and mission. As we invite God’s overflow into our own lives, we can see: A jar of olive branches, bringing to mind olive oil that God multiplied in response to a widow’s expectant faith (2 Kings 4:1-7). A jar filled with spikenard, which was used for costly perfumes like the one Mary poured out on the feet of Jesus (Luke 7:36-50). A jar of figs - a fruit that grew in the land of Samaria, where a woman left her jar behind after an encounter with Jesus changed her life (John 4:1-42). A jar overflowing with Jerusalem garden flowers, because in the garden at the tomb Mary is called by name in a way that changes everything (John 20:1-18).

The burlap calls us into the humble, earthy imagery of walking alongside Jesus; present in the ordinary moments, the dusty roads, the sacred encounters. The leather reminds us to bring Him our very best, elevating the everyday into an offering.
